Reel collects no data. No accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no tracking. It is built from Apple’s frameworks alone, with no third-party SDKs, so nothing inside it collects data on someone else’s behalf either. In App Store terms, the declaration is Data Not Collected.
Movies are read from wherever they sit and never leave your Mac. The original is never written to; an export goes only to the location you pick. The only thing Reel keeps between launches is the Open Recent list, stored in its own preferences on your Mac. Clear it with File ▸ Open Recent ▸ Clear Menu. Edits and annotations live in the window and are gone when you close it, unless you export them to a file you choose.
Speech-to-text runs on your Mac with Apple’s on-device models. Audio and transcripts are not uploaded. The first time you transcribe in a language, macOS downloads that language’s model from Apple; that request is made by the system under Apple’s privacy policy, and after it transcription works offline.
Reel opens no network connections of its own and contains no crash reporter. If you have turned on Share with App Developers in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements, Apple may pass us anonymous crash logs for Reel. They are not linked to you, and turning that setting off stops them.
Writing to support@galt.software means we hold your message, your address, and anything you attach. We use it only to answer you, never share it, and delete it within twelve months, or sooner if you ask. Please don’t send footage you can’t share.
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Like any website, the host keeps ordinary server logs, which we do not use to identify anyone.
We hold nothing from the app, so there is nothing to export or erase. Support email is the only personal data we keep; ask and we will send you a copy, correct it, or delete it. Where GDPR applies, our basis for keeping it is legitimate interest in answering you, and you may complain to your data protection authority. We have never sold or shared personal information. Reel is not directed at children.
If a future version of Reel ever collects anything, this page will say so before it ships. The date at the top marks the last change.
